Community Spotlight: Danville

Community Spotlight: Danville

“The best of both worlds” is an oft-used saying that probably seems a bit trite anymore; however, there are few better ways to succinctly characterize the small city community of Danville: it really is the best of both/multiple worlds.

What makes Danville so attractive and popular? In short, it’s location, size, and character. Danville is small and charming without being overly folksy AND it is relatively close to multiple metropolitan areas. Location, location, location.

Let’s begin with location: Danville is situated just 30 miles outside of San Francisco, making it an ideal home base for commuters. The city is also within a 30-minute commute of both Oakland and Silicone Valley. Also part of Contra Costa County, Danville is a gem in this region of northern California. It is a perfect blend of relaxed charm, beautiful scenery, and upscale living.

A Bit of Background

Sometimes referred to as “the heart of San Ramon Valley,” the history of Danville dates back to the late 19th century when the valley was mainly populated by Native Americans and Spanish missionaries.
Danville later formed into a small farming community that thrived in the lush valley. As the town grew, it eventually transformed into a suburban community amidst nearby growing cities. Fast forward several decades to 1982 when the residents voted to incorporate - Danville officially became a city.

A Few Facts

  • The current population of Danville is approximately 43,000 residents.
  • Mount Diablo is the small city’s most prominent landmark, but the community also lies east of the Diablo Range.
  • Danville’s climate is similar to the Mediterranean areas: long summers with warm days/cool evenings and cool winters. Even with the surrounding mountains, the temperatures remain fairly moderate.
  • Danville was named the safest city in California in 2018.
